Have you ever thought about where your toilet paper comes from? Or your tissues? Most people probably don’t. It’s easy to be complacent about the necessities and products we’ve been trained to use and believe we need throughout the course of our lives, without thinking much beyond the final product. But once we start analyzing things, and going beyond just what we’re presented with, there is a lot to learn, and unfortunately it’s not pretty.
Many paper products are an enormous waste of resources, specifically trees. Old growth forests are decimated to be made into the paper that you jot notes down and eventually chuck once it’s filled your needs. The solution? Well recycling for one. Creating new paper products from used paper. Even toilet paper.
In light of the fact that many people are still in the dark about the abuse to ancient forests, Greenpeace has created a handy pocket-sized shopping guide to encourage smarter shopping.
Do you really want to have to explain to your grandkids some day, that the world went tree-less because you used all of the trees to wipe your bum?
