Imagine my surprise, when as I was flipping through this past August’s issue of Numéro (a high fashion French publication – what, you mean you don’t know it?), I saw the very name of the decrepit old city from which my family has sprung (by way of Eastern Europe)…
…that’s right, New Britain, Connecticut. This is just preposterous. The only way that it makes sense (just barely) is that this photo, in this French magazine, is of a sculpture by artist Cady Noland.
And yet, it inspires me. Maybe a place like good ol’ New Britski deserves a wider audience.
Noland’s body of work is pretty interesting too. Too bad she disappeared.
